According to Marienville-based State Police, 31-year-old Toby J. Best, of Parker, and 54-year-old Laura A. Holmes, of Cheswick, were involved in the accident.

Police say a 2010 Dodge, driven by Best, was traveling north on State Route 949, in Eldred Township, Jefferson County, and Holmes was traveling north on State Route 36 in a 2013 Chrysler Town and Country around 1:46 p.m. on Saturday, November 3.

According to police, Best stopped his Dodge at the posted stop sign/flashing red signal at Route 949 and then entered the intersection into the path of Holmes’ Chrysler. The Chrysler collided head-on with the Dodge.

After impact, the Dodge rotated clockwise 180 degrees, coming to a final rest in the northbound lane of Route 949 facing southbound.

The Chrysler traveled approximately 15 feet north coming to a final rest in the northbound lane of Route 36 facing north.

Five individuals were injured in the crash, four of which were transported by ambulance to Brookville Hospital.

Best suffered suspected minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital.

Best’s passengers — 31-year-old Brittany D. Best, a six-year-old boy, and a nine-year-old girl, all of Clarion — suffered suspected minor injuries and were transported to Brookville Hospital.

Holmes and a passenger in her vehicle, 61-year-old Terry L. Biricocchi, of Verona, were not injured.

Another passenger in Holmes vehicle — 68-year-old Janice M. Markewinski, of Pittsburgh — suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to Brookville Hospital.

All occupants were using seat belts.
