ARMSTRONG CO., Pa. (EYT) — Two elderly Clarion County women were rushed to Pittsburgh trauma centers following a Route 28 crash in Armstrong County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Kittanning-based State Police, around 2:10 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, 73-year-old Arlene M. Clowes, of Strattanville, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Impala south on State Route 28, just south of Exit 18, in South Buffalo Township, Armstrong County.

Police say Clowes failed to stay within her lane, lost control of her vehicle, and struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle then spun back into the roadway and crossed both lanes before striking another concrete barrier. The vehicle came to a final rest along the western shoulder of the roadway facing north.

Clowes, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Allegheny General Hospital by Freeport EMS for treatment of injuries of unknown severity.

Clowes’ passenger, 93-year-old Sybil S. Wein, of Clarion, was wearing a seatbelt. Wein was transported to UPMC Presbyterian by Freeport EMS for treatment of injuries of unknown severity.

South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department and Morris Towing assisted at the scene.
