Chester D. Pence
He was born on June 20, 1923, on the family farm in Porter Township and was the son of the late Harry Byron and Zelda Maude (George) Pence.
Chet was first married on June 21, 1947, to Jeanne (Tosh) Pence and she preceded him in death on August 5, 1979. He then married Bertha J. (Hepler) Lamison Pence on July 16, 1983, and she preceded him in death on November 12, 2015.
Chet served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II serving in the South Pacific on the USS Spangler DE-696 as a signalman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in New Bethlehem. He worked as a driller for various companies including ACME Drilling, Tyger Drilling, and Darmac Coal Co. He was also a member of the Walter W. Craig Post 354 of New Bethlehem American Legion.
He enjoyed traveling and was able to visit all 50 states. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, his church, and Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
He is survived by three children, Philip Pence and his wife Beth, Cindy Aaron and her husband Denny, and Robert Lamison, all of New Bethlehem, seven grandchildren, Kari Emerick (Curt), Adam Pence (Norah), Abigail Westover (Thomas), Renee Chillcott (Chad), Jason Aaron (Abby), Rebecca Rowe (Zach), and Douglas Lamison (Kaitlin), eleven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and both wives, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Wiant, a brother, Robert Pence, and a daughter-in-law, Sue Lamison.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 11, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Lyle Westover officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, the Walter W. Craig Post 354 of New Bethlehem American Legion will honor their fallen comrade. Interment will be in the Squirrel Hill Cemetery, Porter Township, Clarion County.
