CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — The forecast for this week includes both rain and snow as winter weather seems to be settling in for western Pennsylvania.

According to the National Weather Service, rain and snow could begin setting in by about 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, with an accumulation of just under an inch possible by overnight.

Tuesday could be a bit messy, with overcast skies and snow showers likely before 11:00 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow showers between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and a continuing chance of snow showers after 1:00 p.m. with a high of 36 degrees and wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour. Some accumulation of snow may occur, but the accumulation isn’t expected to top a half inch.

Tuesday evening, additional snow showers are likely, mainly before 9:00 p.m. with less than a half inch of snow expected. Temperatures are expected to bottom out around 22 degrees overnight.

Conditions on Wednesday should clear up, with partly sunny skies and a high near 33 degrees. Wednesday night, the temperature is expected to drop down around 23 degrees overnight.

The wet weather will most likely return on Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies, a high temperature of 36 degrees and a 60% chance of precipitation. Snow and freezing rain are likely before 1:00 p.m., then a chance of rain and snow between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., and rain likely after 2:00 p.m. Less than a quarter inch of accumulation is expected.

The mixed rain and snow showers are expected to become all snow after 7:00 p.m. Thursday night with the low temperature dropping down to around 30 degrees. The chance of precipitation overnight is 80%.

The wintry mix will continue Friday with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 39 degrees. Snow showers are likely before 9:00 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow showers between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and a continuing chance of rain showers after 11:00 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 60%.

There is a 30% chance of continued rain and snow showers overnight Friday night with a low temperature falling down around 31 degrees.

Saturday could see a continuation of the wintry mix with mostly cloudy skies and a 40% chance of precipitation. Rain and snow showers are likely before 1:00 p.m., with a chance of rain showers between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., then a continued chance of rain and snow showers after 3:00 p.m.. The high for the day should top out near 37 degrees.

Saturday night, the temperature will drop back down to around 24 degrees with a 40% chance of snow showers overnight.

Sunday should brighten up a bit, with partly sunny skies, a 30% chance of snow showers, and a high near 32 degrees.

While no major accumulations of snow are expected in the area, the cold wet conditions in the upcoming forecast can make for some less than ideal driving conditions. With freezing temperatures, roads that look wet may actually be icy, and drivers should use extra caution when approaching bridges and highway ramps where ice can form without warning.
