KNOX, Pa. (EYT) — An Emlenton woman is facing theft and related charges after she allegedly stole over $60,000.00 from residents who she was acting as a power of attorney.
Court documents indicate the Knox Borough Police Department filed the following criminal charges against 44-year-old Courtney Miller, of Emlenton:
- Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 3 (thirteen counts)
- Theft by Unlawful Taking — Immovable Property, Felony 3 (thirteen counts)
- Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1 (two counts)
- Theft by Unlawful Taking — Immovable Property, Misdemeanor 1 (two counts)
According to a criminal complaint, between the dates of February 17, 2011, and March 12, 2018, Courtney Miller, who was employed at a Knox Borough social services facility, allegedly made unauthorized purchases with company credit cards and wrote checks out on different residents’ accounts and did not deposit money into the appropriate accounts.
The complaint notes that the Knox facility is the power of attorney for several residents throughout Knox Borough and the surrounding area.
According to the complaint, Miller wrote checks out for either items that were to be purchased for the resident(s) or for cash that was supposed to be placed into the residents’ account(s) at their place of residence.
There are a total of fifteen victims involved with the case as follows:

- Victim 2, amount of loss: $4,369.49
- Victim 3, amount of loss: $3,250.00
- Victim 4, amount of loss: $10,355.87
- Victim 5, amount of loss: $2,405.94
- Victim 6, amount of loss: $4,502.69
- Victim 7, amount of loss: $6,781.00
- Victim 8, amount of loss: $2,821.00
- Victim 9, amount of loss: $5,748.74
- Victim 10, amount of loss: $1,866.13
- Victim 11, amount of loss: $3,684.72
- Victim 12, amount of loss: $1,600.00
- Victim 13, amount of loss: $4,564.74
- Victim 14, amount of loss: $2,250.00
- Victim 15, amount of loss: $3,507.99
According to the complaint, restitution is being requested in the total amount of $64,011.46.
Based on the investigation, Miller was arraigned at 10:35 a.m. on Friday, November 9, in Magisterial District Judge Amy Long Turk’s office.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, with Judge Turk presiding.
