Clarion (1-1) was leading 71-70 with just 3:51 remaining in the game but went cold from the field missing five of its final seven shot.

Sophomore guard Khari Williams had the hot hand to start the game burying three 3 pointers, back-to-back-to-back to give Clarion an early 11-point advantage. Fellow junior Jonathan Williams scored all 10 of his points in the first half, shooting 50 percent from the field while grabbing eight boards. Brandon Williams added eight points in the first half before an injury hindered his return in the second half.

The Golden Eagles shot 44 percent from the floor in the first half, building a lead as large as 12 points. The Blue & Gold ended the first half on a positive note forcing a turnover in the last seconds to head into the locker room leading, 45-35.

Rodriguez kept Clarion in the lead scoring a team-high eight points in the second half. Returning from injury was senior guard RJ Laugand, who added seven second-half points in 16 minutes. Laugand ended his day with seven points, four rebounds and a team-high eight assists.

However, Clarion had no answer for D&E’s big man Trevor English, who scored a team-high 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting, while grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds.

Davis & Elkins also won the battle of the boards, out-rebounding Clarion 43-37 on the afternoon.

Rodriguez led Clarion with 18 points on 9 of 17 shooting, K. Williams added 13 points along with 4 rebounds. J. Williams chipped in 10 points and 10 boards on the day.

Clarion will travel to Malone University Tuesday, Nov. 27, for a 7 p.m. tip.
