Wanted Shippenville Man Found with Gun, Meth, Drug Paraphernalia

SURAGCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — A wanted Shippenville man who was apprehended on Sunday is now facing additional charges after he was found to be in possession of a gun, drugs, and drug paraphernalia at the time of his arrest.

Court documents indicate that Sugarcreek Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 25-year-old Ryne Michael Kean of Shippenville on November 18.

According to a criminal complaint, on Saturday, November 17, Ptlm. Johnson of the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department stopped a vehicle on Crestview Drive for an inoperative headlight. The driver provided an insurance card for the vehicle but stated she could not find her license and provided her name and date of birth.

The front passenger also provided her name and the back seat passenger, Ryne Kean, gave his name.

Ptlm. Johnson discovered that the driver had a suspended drivers license and Kean was wanted on a warrant in Clarion County.

Ptlm. Johnson informed Kean of the warrant, and asked him to step out of the vehicle. After Kean was handcuffed, he was searched and a pistol was found in an inside pocket of his coat, along with a spare magazine, a black hood, and a pair of black gloves. Several needles with fluid and some without were also found inside his coat. Various pills, powders in containers and stamp baggies, a metal smoking pipe, a glass smoking pipe, and q-tips and a syringe inside a black glasses case with were also found.

According to the complaint, Kean said the one needle contained methamphetamine. Kean also admitted he wasn’t supposed to have a pistol.

After returning to the station, Ptlm. Johnson discovered that Kean did not have a concealed carry permit and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Kean was arraigned on the following charges at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 18, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office:

  • Possession Of Firearm Prohibited, Felony 1
  • Firearms Not To Be Carried Without License, Felony 3
  • Possession Of Weapon, Misdemeanor 1
  • Possess Instrument Of Crime With Intent, Misdemeanor 1
  • Possession of Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

Kean was lodged in the Venango County Jail. Court documents indicate he was denied bail with the reason listed as “Defendant at high risk for repeat offense — he was just released from Clarion County Jail 6 days ago.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28, with Judge Fish presiding.
