CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Additional details have been released pertaining to the arrest of a man caught driving a stolen vehicle in Cranberry Township.

Court documents indicate the Franklin-based State Police filed criminal charges against 30-year-old Fabian Jamee Young, of Erie.

According to a criminal complaint, on Tuesday, November 13, Troopers Shiley and Bingman, of the Franklin-based State Police, were traveling west on U.S. 322 following a white Dodge Ram when they discovered the vehicle’s registration returned to a dead plate.

A traffic stop was initiated in the Cranberry Walmart parking lot.

According to the complaint, during the course of the investigation, the driver of the vehicle repeatedly provided Trooper Shiley with a name and date of birth that did not match information in their system.

The complaint also notes the driver did not match the photo in the system for the name given.

The driver was then placed under arrest for false identification to law enforcement, while the passenger in the vehicle was released.

The complaint states that the driver refused to submit to fingerprinting, and when informed that a criminal complaint would be filed, he related that “he did not care.”

Trooper Bingman then returned to the Cranberry Walmart where he was able to contact the passenger who identified the driver as Fabian James Young Jr.

Young stated that the reason he lied was due to outstanding warrants, according to the complaint.

It was also learned that the vehicle was reported as stolen out of the City of Erie.

Based on the investigation, Young was arraigned at 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, in Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey’s office on the following charges:

  • Receiving Stolen Property, Felony 3
  • False Identification To Law Enforcement Officer, Misdemeanor 3
  • Evidence Of Emission Inspection, Summary
  • Driving Unregistered Vehicle, Summary
  • Driving Without A License, Summary
  • Failure To Carry License, Summary
  • Driving While Operator Privilege Suspended Or Revoked, Summary
  • Operating Vehicle Without Valid Inspection, Summary

He was lodged in the Venango County Jail and denied bail, with the reason listed on the court document as “Defendant provided a false ID and is wanted out of the City of Erie.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, with Judge Lowrey presiding.
