Balanced Effort, Tough Defense Help Clarion U. Women’s Basketball Roll Past Pitt-Bradford

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Hallie Hart led a balanced Clarion offensive effort with 14 points, as the Golden Eagles vanquished visiting Pitt-Bradford, 64-36, Tuesday morning in front of a Kids Day crowd at the Student Rec Center.

Clarion (5-1) led 16-4 after a quarter and 31-10 at halftime while limiting the Panthers (0-4) to just 20 points through three quarters.

Yasmin Lewis added 13 points for the Golden Eagles with Jordan Bekelja giving Clarion three players in double digits with 11 tallies. Karns City graduate Emily Hegedus chipped in with nine points, nine rebounds and a steal off the bench. Hart also had nine rebounds while adding two blocks and a steal, and Bekelja added three assists and three steals.

Leading the way on the boards for Clarion, who outrebounded UPB, 57-28, was Imani Dockery, who snagged 10 boards in 20 minutes of action.

Shaelyn Snipes had a game-high 17 points for the Panthers but was the only Pitt-Bradford player in double digits.

Clarion won despite shooting just 32.4 percent (24 of 74) from the field including going 0-for-24 from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles were also 16 of 25 from the free-throw line.

Pitt-Bradford hit on only 12 of 47 shots (25.5 percent) including 3 of 14 from beyond the arc. The Panthers were 9 of 12 from the line.

Clarion returns to action when it starts PSAC play with a crossover at Lock Haven at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. The Golden Eagles are then at Kutztown at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, before returning to the Rec Center to host Mansfield at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.
