Nine-Vehicle Crash in Slippery Rock Twp. Leaves Eight People Injured

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP., LAWRENCE CO., Pa. (EYT) — State Police are investigating a nine-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday evening on State Route 422 in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County.

According to KDKA News, the crash shut down a portion of Route 422 on Wednesday night.

The crash, which was first reported around 4:45 p.m., occurred at the intersection of Routes 422 and 388, near the Sheetz and involved not only a New Castle Transit Authority bus, which was returning from Pittsburgh, but also a tractor-trailer, and several passenger vehicles. Two of the cars landed upside down on the guide rails behind the city bus.

There were multiple entrapments initially reported, and eight people were rushed to hospitals with three of them listed in critical condition.

A dashboard camera on a car passing in the opposite direction as the crash occurred captured footage of the initial impact. The video footage shows the tractor-trailer involved slamming into the rear of a pickup truck.

Authorities say five people, including the semi-truck driver, were transported to Jameson Hospital, and medical helicopters flew three people to a Youngstown hospital, including the driver of the pick-up truck.

The investigation into the into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Route 422 in the area of the crash was shut down until after 11 p.m.
