OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — U.S. Senator Pat Toomey’s staff held a constituent outreach event in Oil City on Friday.

Staff member Ashley Franklin spent Friday afternoon at the office of State Senator Scott Hutchinson on Elm Street in Oil City to assist local constituents with issues they have been experiencing with federal agencies and programs.

“Senator Toomey does outreach for various different federal agency topics,” Franklin told exploreClarion.com.

“The majority of the ones I hear about are Social Security and IRS. Those are really the main ones that people have concerns about, but Senator Toomey is always very open to helping his constituents, so that’s why we do various outreaches to different counties in Pennsylvania.”

According to Franklin, the size and locations of the events vary.

“We kind of do it based on location. I was actually coming out here for another meeting. But, we also do them if somebody calls our office and wants us to come out to an area, we’re always more than open to that.”

Franklin noted that the traffic at these events varies quite widely, with some heavily attended and others far more sparse.

For anyone who would like to seek the help of Senator Toomey’s office with a federal agency issue, but was unable to attend Friday’s event, assistance is also available by reaching out directly to Senator Toomey’s office.

Due to the Privacy Act of 1974, Senator Toomey must have an individual’s written consent before he can contact a federal agency on that individual’s behalf, so the first step in seeking assistance is completing a Privacy Release Form, available here, which must then be sent to Senator Toomey’s Allentown office.

Once a staff member has reviewed the form and the individual’s issue, they can begin the process of contacting the federal agency involved.

There are a few items that Senator Toomey’s office suggests individuals check before seeking assistance.

First, they suggest checking online to see if you can find the information you need.

Second, before contacting either a state or federal representative for help, determine whether your problem involves a state or a federal agency.

Finally, it is important for those seeking help to understand what the Senator’s office can and cannot do. Senator Toomey’s office cannot intervene in matters for anyone who resides outside of the State of Pennsylvania or in matters under the jurisdiction of local or state government. They also cannot intervene in or attempt to influence the outcome of cases under the jurisdiction of a court, be it local, state or federal, or offer any legal advice.

Mailing addresses, phone numbers, and general contact information for Senator Toomey’s various offices are available here.
