ERIE, Pa. (EYT) — On Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Scott Brady announced that an Elk County man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on additional child pornography-related charges.

According to The Bradford Era, a new indictment was filed against 41-year-old Jesse Porter, of Ridgway, with additional charges. This indictment replaces a previous indictment, that was announced in November.

The new indictment seeks to prosecute Porter for violating federal laws related to the sexual exploitation of children, charging him with one count each of distribution of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor and receipt of material depicting the sexual exploitation of a minor, plus six counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

He could face a sentence of up to 220 years confinement and/or fines of up to $2,000,000 for the charges.

Porter is accused of taking inappropriate photographs of two children, one born in 2015 and the other in 2003, with his cell phone, and distributing them through an internet-based application.

The investigation began through the Pittsburgh office Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) following a report from the HSI Attache Office in Vancouver, Canada, regarding a Kik instant messaging mobile app user receiving and distributing child pornography. One of the photos was then traced to Porter.

A criminal complaint was filed on November 8 following a search Porter’s residence.

The investigation was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood uses federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute people who sexually exploit children.
