RABIES ALERT: Clarion County Fox Tests Positive for Rabies

PERRY TWP., Pa. — A rabies alert has been issued after a fox in Perry Township tested positive for rabies.

Location: Doc Walker Road, Perry Township, Parker, Clarion County

Summary: A dog was chased and bitten by a grey fox. The women immediately cleaned the wounds on the dog and did not wear any protective gloves. The grey fox was submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of Health Laboratory where it tested positive for rabies.

Exposure: One dog was exposed to the grey fox and is current on its rabies vaccinations. The dog will undergo a 45 day observation period. One person will receive post-exposure prophylaxis.

Pennsylvania law requires all dogs and non-feral cats three months of age and older to be vaccinated against rabies. Booster vaccinations must be administered periodically to maintain lifelong immunity. Failure to comply with the law may result in a fine of up to $300.
