Redbank Valley Community Center to Host Mother-Son Event in February

Wednesday, January 9, 2019 @ 12:01 AM

Posted by Blane Gold

mom-sonNEW BETHLEHEM, Pa (EYT) – After two successful daddy-daughter dances, Redbank Valley Community Center Director, Jennifer Gold, and board members found themselves inundated with requests for a similar event for mothers and sons.

Those requests will soon come to fruition with an upcoming event scheduled for February 2nd in New Bethlehem.

“As the popularity of our annual daddy-daughter dance has grown over the last two years, we found ourselves receiving multiple requests from mothers who wanted to share in the same type of experience with their sons,” said Gold. “Although Pam Shirey stepped down from her position on our board in December, this is something that she was very passionate about throughout the last calendar year. She deserves a lot of the credit for making this a reality.”

Shirey’s idea led to months of planning and preparation which eventually led to the creation of an event that the community center feels confident will be a memorable evening for local mothers and sons.

Red 201 (201 representing the 201 in 201 Washington Street, where the event is being held) is a Hollywood-themed evening for mothers and their sons. Mothers and their sons will be introduced as they strut down the red carpet in their best formal wear. After making many stops along the red carpet to pose for pictures for the paparazzi, guests will be treated to dancing and games throughout the evening as they will enjoy music from a live DJ.

The ever-popular s’more bar from the daddy-daughter dance will be reappearing for Red 201, as dessert is included with the ticket price.

“Our mission at Redbank Valley Community Center is to encourage, educate, and entertain everyone that we come in contact with at the center,” added Gold. “For Red 201, specifically, we are striving to encourage strong family connections by allowing moms and sons to engage in an entertaining way. Not only can mothers interact with their sons, (but) they can also interact with other members of our community in a really fun environment.”

“We really hope this can be a successful annual event that becomes every bit as successful as our daddy-daughter dance.”

Red 201 will be held Saturday, February 2, at St. Charles Hall in New Bethlehem. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the red carpet walk to begin at 7:00 p.m. and dancing and games to follow until 9:00 p.m.

Tickets are $25.00 per mother and can be purchased at Redbank Valley Community Center Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, January 10.
