DEP Awards $67K Grant to Improve Trout Habitat in Venango County

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Wolf Administration on Wednesday announced grant funding to restore approximately 1,000 feet of streambank along Bullion Run in Venango County.

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) awarded a grant of $66,887.00 to Trout Unlimited to complete the work.

This 2019 Growing Greener grant will be used to restore the streambank of Bullion Run, which will improve fish and other aquatic life habitat and reduce sediment pollution by more than 15,000 pounds per year.

“Cutting down on sediment in coldwater streams helps bring back fish and other aquatic life,” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell. “When fish habitat improves, so does fishing.”

One of the largest investments into Pennsylvania’s environment, Growing Greener projects have been instrumental in cleaning up abandoned mine lands, preserving farmland, and protecting and restoring watersheds throughout the commonwealth.

The Growing Greener grant program is supported by the Environmental Stewardship Fund, which receives its funding from landfill tipping fees.
