Gerald L. “Jerry” Wentling

5c37ae114c1f5Gerald L. “Jerry” Wentling, 83, formerly of St. Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Oil City Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on September 20, 1935, Jerry was the son of the late Chester and Alice Wentling.

Jerry was united in marriage to Kathleen Troutman Haskins on June 10, 1983. She preceded him in death in 2004.

Jerry was an excellent electrician.

He worked for Knox Glass Company for many years.

He traveled to numerous glass plants across the United States, specializing in tank rebuilds.

Kathleen was able to accompany him on his travels for many years.

Jerry also worked for Richland Township maintaining roadways.

Jerry loved country music and enjoyed doing the two — step dance with Kathleen.

He especially liked George Jones.

Jerry belonged to the Parker Allegheny Canby Masonic Lodge #521 F&AM.

He was a member of the lodge for over 49 years.

Jerry loved to tackle projects in his garage, the more challenging, the better.

He was a wonderful caretaker to his mother as she grew old.

Above all, his greatest love was spending time with family.

He is survived by his step daughter, Krystin Sallie and her husband, Darryl; his step son, Michael Haskins and his wife, Elaine; his grandsons, David Haskins and his wife, Andera, Kyle Haskins, and Luke Haskins; two great grandchildren, Gabriella and Landon Haskins, and three children from his first marriage.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, J.R. and Don.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home Inc., 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg from 6 – 8 p.m. Friday and from 1 – 2:00 p.m. Saturday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Michael Taylor, pastor of the New Life Baptist Church in Saint Petersburg, officiating.

Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.

Members of the Parker Allegheny Canby Lodge #521 F&AM will conduct a memorial service at 8:00 p.m.

Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital, 1645 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16505.
