Fire Marshal Rules Amish Furniture Store Blaze Incendiary

SMICKSBURG, Pa. (EYT) — The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal’s Unit has ruled a recent fire at an amish furniture store in Smicksburg incendiary in nature.

Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Russell Stewart opened the investigation after a fire was set in the interior of an amish furniture store located at 2130 Stephenson Road in West Mahoning Twp., Indiana Co., on Jan. 25 around 9:25 p.m.

The store, housed inside a pole-barn structure, was destroyed with damage estimated at $50,000.00.

It was owned by 25-year-old Roman Byler of Smicksburg.

No injuries were reported.

Upon completion of the investigation, Trooper Stewart ruled the fire incendiary in nature.

An incendiary fire differs slightly from arson. Whereas Arson is defined as maliciously and intentionally, or recklessly, starting a fire, incendiary means the fire was intentionally ignited under circumstances where the person knows the fire should not be ignited.

Investigators said the fire remains under investigation.
