police-sceneEAST LACKAWANNOCK TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Two teenage girls were killed in a Sunday evening crash on Interstate 80 in Mercer County.

According to police, around 6:50 p.m. a three-vehicle crash involving two tractor-trailers and an SUV occurred on Interstate 80 eastbound at the 14.1 mile marker in East Lackawannock Township, Mercer County.

Two teenage girls in the SUV were killed in the crash.

According to Mercer County Coroner John Libonati, the victims were identified as 16-year-old Alexis Myers and 15-year-old Danielle Nelson, both of Hermitage. Libonati said both girls died of blunt force trauma and were declared dead at the scene at 7:20 p.m.

Two other girls who were in the vehicle were treated at a Grove City Hospital then transferred to a Pittsburgh trauma center, according to Libonati. The names of the two other girls have not been released.

Libonati noted that it appeared the SUV lost control due to the weather conditions and was then struck by a semi-truck.

According to police, the two other vehicles involved in the crash were a 2015 Freightliner operated by 53-year-old Michael Smith of New Berlin, PA, and a 2016 International Harvester operated by 37-year-old Jarmono L. Hogg of Fairview Park, Ohio.

Both Smith and Hogg were wearing seatbelts.

Hogg suffered injuries of unknown severity and was transported to Grove City Medical Center.

Smith was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

East End Fire Department, Mercer Auto Wreckers, and the Mercer County Coroner assisted at the scene.
