UPDATE: Thousands Still Without Power in Region

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) – Thousands throughout the region remain without power due to severe weather.

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh issued a High Wind Warning that took effect Sunday at 7:00 a.m.

Sporadic wind gusts resulted in electric outages affecting all of the major electric service providers in the region.

As of 8:30 p.m., First Energy Corporation, the parent company for WestPenn Power and Penelec, reported 34,140 total outages. Regional outages include 1,162 in Armstrong County, 2,930 in Butler County, 91 in Clarion County, 463 in Clearfield, 40 in Crawford County, 568 in Indiana County, 378 in Jefferson County, 369 in Mercer County, 8 in Venango County, and 62 in Warren County.

Additionally, an estimated 790 outages are being reported by United Electric, including 8 in Armstrong County, 2 in Clarion County, 20 in Indiana County, and 760 in Jefferson County.

As of 8:30 p.m. Central Electric had approximately 1,700 members without power, with the majority of the outages being from a power supply outage at its Coaltown Substation. CEC crews are currently working to back feed (from another supply) this substation and restore power to approximately 1,400 members.

With that complete, CEC will have approximately 300 members without power. Crews are already working on those 300 remaining outages and more crews will become available with the completion of the back feed switching.

In total, over 102,000 Pennsylvania residents were without power as of Monday evening.

The High Wind Warning has since expired.
