Charles Robert Zerbe

5c816fe761afaCharles Robert Zerbe, 77, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 with his family by his side at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He was born in Sargent, Elk County, on August 10, 1941 to the late Norman and Madeline (Preshak) Zerbe.

Chuck graduated from Johnsonburg Area High School in 1959, and then went on to graduate from Clarion State College in 1963.

He was a member of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Oil City.

Mr. Zerbe taught science classes at Oil City Junior High School from 1963 until his retirement in 1996.

In his spare time, he kept himself busy with multiple organizations and activities. He coached Oil City Junior High football, Cranberry Little League baseball, Steffee, Elementary basketball, and Cranberry American Legion baseball.

He was also a member of the Lucinda Antler Club, Venango County Coon and Fox Club, and bowled in several leagues at Seneca Lanes for the past 41 years.

Chuck loved to hunt, fish, golf, and travel to Myrtle Beach, but most of all, he adored and cherished his children and grandchildren.

He was married on June 13, 1964 to the former Catherine Flanigan, and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons: Patrick Zerbe and his wife Cynthia of Seneca, Timothy Zerbe and his wife Kelly of Seneca, and Christopher Zerbe and his wife Kathryn of Franklin; and his six grandsons: Brendan, Garrett, Devin, and Jordan, all of Seneca, and Colin and Conner of Franklin. He is also survived by his sister, Sandra Zerbe and her husband, Frank Meehan of Seneca; and numerous cousins in the Johnsonburg area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Madeline Zerbe.

There will be no public visitation held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday (March 9th) at 11:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 35 Pearl Ave. in Oil City, with Father John Miller as celebrant.

Everyone please meet at the church.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Oil City.
