Pamela “Pam” J. Young-Poindexter

Thumbnail-7Pamela “Pam” J. Young-Poindexter, 64, passed away unexpectedly in UPMC Hamot in Erie on Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Born on February 11, 1955 in Franklin, she was the daughter of Donald and Barbara Ann (Marshall) Boyd; her mother survives her.

After graduating high school, Pamela received a Bachelor’s and later a Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Pam worked for UPMC for more than 20 years before becoming Director of Nursing at George Junior Republic, where she worked for the last 10 years.

Pam was devoted to her loving family and was married to Jay “Deacon” Poindexter of Franklin for more than 30 years.

Pam loved music and was a founding committee member of the Franklin Blues and BBQ Festival. She loved seeing live bands, interior design, bargain hunting, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Pam cherished her time at the beach and spending time with her beloved pets, Sophie and Hunter. She enjoyed her job and the co-workers she saw each day. She loved sitting by the fire and talking away the evenings with her best friends, Daneen Hufnagel and Mary Edwards.

Pam was a wonderful wife, mother, and a trusted friend.

In addition to her husband, Pam is survived by her two daughters, Sarah Heather Young of Greensburg, PA, and Caitlin Rae Poindexter of Franklin; her sister, Beth Ann Wong; and her nephews, Michael Heckathorn, his daughter, Jordan Joanne Heckathorn, and his wife, Candy, of Rockland, Noah Plowman, his two children, Jacob and Lillianna Plowman, and his significant other, Amanda Carbaugh, of Oil City, and Andrew Poindexter and his two children, Amir and Zayne Poindexter, of Franklin.

Pamela was preceded in death by her father, Donald Boyd; her daughter Rachael Emily Young; and her brother-in-law, Brad Wong.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin, PA 16323, from 10 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm.

Funeral services for Pam will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc. starting at 4 pm, with Christine Blondheim, close friend of Pamela, officiating.

Interment will be held at Franklin Cemetery
