FASSLERruthRuth Higgins Fassler, 95, a former Franklin resident, died peacefully at 4:35 PM Saturday, March 9, 2019, in her niece’s Oil City home; under the loving care of The Venango County V.N.A. Hospice caregivers; following a period of declining health.

She was born August 21, 1923 in Franklin, a beloved daughter of the late: John A. and Ruth Shaffer Higgins.

Ruth graduated in 1940 from Franklin High School.

On April 11, 1959 she was married in Grace Lutheran Church in Franklin to Norman F. Fassler.

The couple celebrated 57 wonderful years together, until Norm’s death on March 12, 2017.

She was a lifelong, active and faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Even into her later years, Ruth enjoyed swimming, playing cards, working puzzles and was an avid reader.

She also spent many years of her life actively volunteering, with The Franklin Public Library and The American Red Cross, among others.

Ruth was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan!

She is survived by two sons: Michael C. Duncombe and David A. Duncombe; and by a loving niece, Shirley Scott.

Ruth was a “special grandmother” to: Missy, Jamie and Kelsey Knarr; in addition to many loving extended family members and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Higgins.

In accordance of her wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Graveside services in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City, shall be private.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.
