Clarion Peebles Closing in January 2020

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Tuesday night a sign seen all too frequently these days was hoisted outside of Peebles Store 22677 on Route 68 in front of the Clarion Mall.

Details are sketchy, but Manager Toni McCanch said all she was allowed to say is that the company did not negotiate a lease with the developers and the store will be closing Jan. 18, 2020. Peebles is owned by Stage Stores that operates 793 stores in 42 states under the Bealls, Palais Royal, Peebles, Stage, Gordmans, and Goody’s nameplates. The company operates stores primarily in Midwestern, Southeastern, Mid-Atlantic, and New England regions.

The sudden announcement hit the Clarion Peebles employees hard.  “I cried,” said Taylor Kells, beauty counter manager.

McCanch has been with the store since day one.

“I opened the store eleven years ago and now it looks like I will be closing it too,” said McCanch.  “I’m not near ready to retire, by no means.”

A request for additional information was not immediately returned from Stage Stores Corporate headquarters in South Houston, Texas.
