Football Co-Op Off & Running With First Outreach Endeavor, Wreaths Across Clarion

Sackets Harbor Military Cemetery Wreath Laying CeremonyCLARION, Pa. (EYT) – With only a month into the new combined Clarion, Clarion-Limestone, North Clarion football program, the one-team co-op is off to a great running start working together toward a touchdown in giving back to the community.

The co-op football team has partnered up with local volunteer resident, Noreen Shirey, to ensure that all veterans laid to rest at the Clarion Cemetery are honored this December on National Wreaths Across America Day.

This year the ceremony that is held simultaneously across the country at more than 1,600 locations, will be on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at noon.

Shirey is organizing the outdoor event with an incredible ceremony of local singers, a procession and posting of the Nation’s colors by local military veterans, high school band and choir members offering impressive patriotic selections, along with local government officials and dignitaries during the thirty-minute ceremony.

After the ceremony, the goal is to have the Varsity, JV, and Junior High football players, parents, and coaches to place a live, balsam fir wreath at the headstone of every veteran buried in the Clarion Cemetery and spread patriotism and commemoration for the ultimate sacrifices they made for our country and their families.

From now until July 1, the football team is seeking sponsorship of approximately 680 wreaths needed to honor every veteran at the Clarion Cemetery. Each wreath sponsorship is $15.00, and sponsorships are tax deductible.

“Every wreath sponsorship is a meaningful gift from an appreciative supporter who knows what it means to serve and sacrifice for the freedoms we all enjoy,” said Noreen. “We are so grateful to the Clarion Football team and community for participating in our mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach.”

Wreaths Across America is a not-for-profit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission, “Remember, Honor, Teach,” is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as at more than 1,600 Veteran’s Cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.

National Wreaths Across America Day is a free, non-political event, open to all people.

To purchase wreaths online, please visit www.Clarion Football.com.

Individuals may also pay for a wreath by check. Please make the check payable to “Wreaths Across America” and write on the memo line the football code “PA0404P” and mail it to Clarion Football Boosters, 219 Liberty Street, Clarion, PA 16214.
