Mary Joy Kennedy (Tegtmeier)

Kennedy PhotoMary Joy Kennedy (Tegtmeier) passed peacefully into eternal glory surrounded by her husband and children in her home on March 12, 2019 in Clarion, PA at the age of 71.

Her family gives thanks for her complete healing.

Joy was born on May 4, 1947 in Elmhurst, IL to Carla and Willard Tegtmeier. She married Al Kennedy, professor / administrator at Clarion University, in 1973.

Over 42 years, the couple welcomed three children into their home.

Her children remember her as loving, serving, generous, sweet, kind, and caring.

Joy is survived by her husband, Al Kennedy; daughter, Kelly Harris and husband Matthew; daughter Kimberly Martin and husband Seth; and son, Kristopher Kennedy and wife Katherine.

She was blessed with six grandchildren who called her “Buddy” and who loved and adored her, Korinne Joy, Kailyn, Kroix, Kiersten, Josiah, and Grace Joy.

She is preceded in death by her father, Willard Tegtmeier in 1949, mother Carla Tegtmeier in 1989, step-father William Milne in 2009, and brother Leslie Tegtmeier in 1968 while serving Vietnam.

Joy was a vibrant lady who was a Certified Public Accountant, as well as a professor of marketing and accounting at Clarion University.

She taught mathematics in Silver Springs, Maryland and Clarion-Limestone Schools.

She loved family time at Captiva Island, FL & Folly Beach, SC in the warm and radiant sunshine.

She was an active and dedicated member of New Hope Church.

Additionally, Joy and Al were mission directors at Zion Baptist Church, leading as well as participating on site in missions to local, national and international fields.

She enjoyed participating in aerobics at Clarion University, family time at the Clarion River and walking with friends in town.

The family would like to thank the dedicated Support Team (comprised of prayer partners, friends, and family) for the care, love, childcare, and support for the whole family.

Her favorite verses and scriptures during her care were Psalm 23, Psalm 91, Psalm 34: 4-7, and John 3:16.

A These passages provided her with comfort, peace and joy.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 15th from 5-8 p.m. at New Hope Church, 15870 Route 322 in Clarion PA.

An additional visitation will be held Saturday, March 16th, from 10-11 a.m., to be followed by funeral services at11:00 a.m. also at the church. Pastor Colin Koch will officiate the ceremony.

Interment will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery, 1845 St. John Road, Punxsutawney PA.
