JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — An Eldred Township woman who videotaped herself sexually abusing a young child and admitting to having sex with a dog was sentenced on Wednesday to up to 64 years in state prison.

On Wednesday, March 20, Jefferson County President Judge John H. Foradora sentenced 31-year-old Christine Lorraine Nichols, of Brookville, to an aggregate sentence of a minimum of 26 years and three months to a maximum of 64 years in state prison on charges from two cases involving sex crimes.

Foradora ordered Nichols to the following sentences in a state correctional facility:

  • 20 to 40 years: Rape of a Child, Felony 1;
  • Three to 10 years: Photographing Explicit Acts Involving a Child, Felony 2, to be served consecutive to the previous count;

  • Two to five years: Incest of a Minor, Felony 2, to be served consecutive to the previous count; and
  • Three months to two years: Sex with an Animal, Misdemeanor 2, (one count) to be served consecutive to the previous count.

Court documents indicate Nichols pleaded guilty to the charges above on January 2, 2019.

As a result of the plea agreement, the following charges were dismissed:

  • Statutory Sexual Assault: 11 Years Older, Felony 1
  • Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse with Child, Felony 1

  • Criminal Use of Communication Facility, Felony 3
  • Indecent Assault of Person Less than 13 Years of Age, Misdemeanor 1
  • Sexual Intercourse With Animal, Misdemeanor 2 (one count)

The charges stem from an investigation that was initiated after the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) informed the Pennsylvania State Police of a child pornography arrest in Texas that uncovered explicit video content and images of two toddlers, and the ICAC determined that the video and images originated in the Brookville area.

Further investigation by Punxsutawney-based State Police, Marienville-based State Police, Dubois-based State Police, and the Northwest Computer Crime Unit revealed that the videos and images derived from a residence in Eldred Township, Jefferson County, and it was determined that the videos were produced and disseminated by Christine Lorraine Nichols.

Initial Child Pornography Case

Texas Child Porn Arrest Sparks Investigation

On June 2, 2017, Pa. State Police Corporal Novak was contacted by Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) analyst Rosanna Powers about an investigation conducted in conjunction with the Webster Police Department in Webster, Texas.

Powers said the investigation revealed that a female suspect, later identified as Christine Nichols, allegedly produced child pornography and transmitted it to Michael Teal of Crosby, Texas.

According to information provided by Detective D.G. Nettles of the Webster Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit, police began investigating Teal’s online activity after Google Inc. submitted a CyberTip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The CyberTip contained information indicating child pornography images were transmitted over Google Inc. servers via a Gmail account owned by Teal.

Multiple electronic devices were seized after a search warrant was executed at Teal’s Crosby, Texas residence.

Detective Nettles later interviewed Teal who eventually confessed to the production, possession, and dissemination of child pornography. He also admitted to sexually assaulting two children, according to court documents.

Teal Communicates with Nichols

Further review of the information provided by Google Inc. revealed that Teal communicated with an individual associated with the user “christinenichols[removed]@gmail.com.”

These communications included “sexualized conversations” about a child. At one point, the user “christinenichols[removed]@gmail.com” admitted to having sexual contact with a male child.

The communications contained extreme graphic details in which the woman admitted to having sexual contact with the child.

Additional chat messages indicated that the user “christinenichols[removed]@gmail.com” had been “struggling with pedophilia and regretted sexually assaulting the child.”

Detective Nettles also reviewed images that Teal received from the user “christinenichols[removed]@gmail.com” including nude and non-nude images of a woman. Some of these images depicted a white female with a white male child approximately 2 to 4 years of age.

Additionally, a close-up image of the woman showed that her tongue was pierced twice.

Detective Nettles compared the images from the user “christinenichols[removed]@gmail.com” with a child pornography video received during the initial CyberTip report. The video showed an adult female performing oral sex on what appeared to be a prepubescent male child. The video illustrated that the female suspect had her tongue pierced twice.

Using public resources, Detective Nettles was able to associate the user “christinenichols[removed]@gmail.com” with a Facebook account using the alias Christine Brodd.

Upon further investigation, Detective Nettles identified the woman as Christine Lorraine (Brodd) Nichols, 29, of McManigle Road, Brookville, Pa.

Detective Nettles then contacted an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) affiliate in Pennsylvania and provided the case information for additional investigation to be conducted by the Pa. State Police.

Members of Pa. State Police Troop C then reviewed the evidence and confirmed the suspect was Christine Lorraine Nichols of Brookville.

Nichols Taken into Custody, Interviewed

On June 3 around 9:00 p.m., Nichols was taken into custody by the Pa. State Police at a location along Thompson Drive in Marienville, Pa.

Jefferson County CYS responded to the scene and assured the safety of all children involved.

At approximately 9:27 p.m., Cpl. Novak and Tpr. Weaver interviewed Nichols at the Marienville State Police barracks.

During the interview, Nichols confirmed that she recently resided at a location along McManigle Road in Brookville.

Nichols indicated that she was born In Texas but has lived in Pennsylvania since 2005.

Nichols also confirmed that she knew Michael Teal, stating that they have been friends for several years.

She said she last communicated with Teal approximately two months ago via Facebook messenger.

Additionally, she told police that Teal had confided in her and told her about his sexual relationship with two children.

Nichols said Teal sent her multiple sexually explicit videos using Facebook messenger. The videos depicted the sexual assault of the children.

Nichols also admitted that she sent sexually explicit images and videos to Teal via Facebook messenger. She said she produced a video of herself performing oral sex on a prepubescent male child in October 2016 and then sent the video to Teal, according to court documents.

She also confirmed that she was the owner of the user “christinenichols[removed]@gmail.com” account and the Facebook account uncovered earlier in the investigation.

Additional Charges Filed

According to a criminal complaint, on June 2, 2017, Corporal Novak of the PSP Northwest Computer Crime Task Force, was contacted by an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) analyst regarding an investigation being conducted by the Webster Police Department in Webster, Texas.

The analyst related that investigators had been conducting a sexual abuse of children investigation in which they discovered information indicating that a female in Brookville, Pa., had produced and transmitted a child pornography video to a known Texas man. The analyst then forwarded Corporal Novak the case information provided by Detective Nettles, of the Webster Police Department.

According to the information, through the review of information, images, and video from a related case, Detective Nettles identified Christine Lorraine Nichols of Brookville, as the user of a known Gmail account used in the discussion of sexual contact with a child, in which she admitted to having sexual contact with a child.

The complaint states that Detective Nettles also reviewed images, including nude and non-nude images of an adult white female, some of which depicted the woman with a white male child. Additionally, one of the images depicted a close-up image of the woman in which it could be seen that she had her tongue pierced twice.

Detective Nettles then compared the images with a child pornography video that was received from the initial cyber tip report.

According to the complaint, the woman in the child pornography video also had her tongue pierced twice, and after reviewing all of the images, Detective Nettles concluded the woman in the video and the woman in the images were the same person.

The detective then used publicly available resources and found a Facebook profile associated with the woman, which led him to conclude the woman was related to the alias “Christine Brodd.” He was then able to identify the woman as Christine Nichols, according to the complaint.

Nichols was taken into custody by members of PSP around 9:00 p.m. on June 3, 2017.

According to the complaint, Nichols admitted to having been in contact, for several years, with a known man who was the subject of the original investigation in Texas and identified her Facebook account and Gmail account as the accounts previously identified in the investigation.

In addition, Nichols admitted that she was aware the known man had been sexually assaulting his children and that he had sent her multiple sexually explicit videos involving the sexual assault of his children, the complaint states.

Nichols also admitted that she sent back to the known man sexually explicit images and videos that she produced involving a minor. She also admitted to performing sexual acts with her dog and indicated investigators would most likely discover videos depicting such acts, the complaint indicates.

Forensic analysis of a Samsung Galaxy J1 cell phone belonging to Nichols resulted in the recovery of two videos which depict Nichols participating in sexual acts with a dog. Additionally, Facebook records associated with her account resulted in the recovery of six videos depicting Nichols performing sexual acts with a dog, according to the complaint.
