Clarion Couple Who Barricaded Young Child in Bedroom to Be Sentenced on Wednesday

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — A Clarion couple who were found guilty of child endangerment in a jury trial will be sentenced on Wednesday.

According to court documents, sentencing for 34-year-old Samantha Marie Woodside and 43-year-old Corey Dent Yachimowski is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 27, in front of President Judge James G. Arner.

On February 11, a jury found both defendants guilty of Endangering Welfare of Children — Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint filed by Clarion-based State Police, around 10:45 a.m. on May 17, a CYS (Children and Youth Services) caseworker went to a residence in Clarion Township and found a juvenile victim locked in her bedroom by two baby gates, one on top of the other, and the parents, Samantha Woodside and Corey Yachimowski, just waking up at the time.

The complaint states the gates were fastened into the door frame with screws and had to be removed with a drill upon the request of the CYS caseworker, who witnessed Yachimowski removing the gates with a battery powered drill.

The complaint also states that the caseworker reported the victim was chewing on a piece of paper towel, and when the caseworker asked why, the victim responded that she was hungry.

Around 4:15 p.m. on May 17, Corporal Krick and the CYS caseworker followed up at the residence and found that both gates were removed.

According to the complaint, the victim answered the door herself.

Based on the investigation, the defendants were arraigned on Wednesday, July 18, in Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn’s office.

They were released on their own recognizances.

Motion for New Trial Denied

Clarion County Chief Public Defender Erich Spessard filed a motion for a new trial on February 14.
