Borough Officials: Men Soliciting Door to Door Don’t Have Permit

Clarion 7th Avenue 3CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Clarion Borough officials say three men who were reportedly going door to door in the borough recently in an attempt to solicit for a utility company do not have permits.

According to Clarion Borough Housing and Zoning Officer Scott Sharrar, the men have been reported to the borough several times.

“They do not have a permit to solicit in the borough right now,” said Sharrar.

The Clarion Borough website notes that per Chapter 157, of the Clarion Borough Code, a license is required for any public solicitation activity conducted within the Borough.

Sharrar explained that anyone who is approached by one of the men during the borough’s regular office hours — from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays — should call his office at 814-226-7707, extension 104, to report it. Anyone who is approached by one of the men in the evening or over the weekend should call 9-1-1 to have an officer dispatched.

Sharrar noted there is one company that has a permit to solicit in the borough right now, but anyone from that company would be able to show their permit when asked.

“The gentleman going around said they didn’t have a permit when asked,” he explained.

According to Sharrar, solicitors in Clarion Borough are required to show a valid ID and a borough permit if asked.
