According to Venango County 9-1-1, the initial call came in around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday for a crash on Interstate 80 eastbound between Exit 35 (Route 308, Clintonville) and Exit 42 (Route 38, Emlenton), near the 37-mile marker.
Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, and Franklin-based State Police were dispatched to the scene.
According to Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Grant Rae, the initial call was for a one-vehicle accident with a vehicle disabled in the middle of the roadway. However, while emergency crews were en route, they received word that a second vehicle had been involved.
“When we got on scene, one vehicle was facing west in the left eastbound lane with no headlights left functioning. The second vehicle was about 300 feet down the road on the right shoulder facing north with the front end in the right line,” Rae told exploreClarion.com.
“At that point, due to it being on a blind turn, I made the decision to shut the interstate down.”
According to Rae, no one was injured in the crash, and the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 remained closed for one hour and two minutes for clean-up of the scene.
Emlenton Fire Department was placed on standby, and PennDOT and Hovis Auto Wrecking also assisted at the scene.
The scene was cleared around 9:41 p.m.
