LIMESTONE TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say a local man is facing DUI and related charges after he crashed his ATV into a utility pole, shearing it off, while driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to Clarion-based State Police, around 9:02 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 34-year-old Seth D. Hammond, of Fairmount City, was operating a 2014 Polaris RZR 1000, traveling east on Michael Drive just east of State Route 66 in Limestone Township, Clarion County.

Police say Hammond was traveling at a high rate of speed when he drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a telephone pole with the front end of the vehicle, shearing off the pole, causing live electrical wires to come down and create small fires on nearby trees.

Hammond was ordered to remain in his vehicle until the power lines were shut off to ensure a safe exit from the vehicle. He then safely exited the vehicle and was checked out by EMTs from Clarion Hospital Ambulance.

Hammond was not injured.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage.

According to police, it was determined that Hammond was driving under the influence of alcohol, and he was subsequently arrested.

He was also cited for a speed violation.

Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, MC Auto Repair, and West Penn Power assisted at the scene.
