Clarion JCPenney Thriving Despite National Closures
According to General Manager Brandon Wilson, not only is Clarion’s store not on the list of impending closures, it is currently thriving.
“Our store has never been healthier,” Wilson told exploreClarion.com. “Last year we had the best year we’ve had in my eight years here, and several years before that, too.”
According to Wilson, Clarion’s store gets a lot of support from the local community and works hard to fill the needs of the people who shop there.
“We have a very loyal customer base. We see the same people regularly and like to take care of them. We really appreciate the people that help make the store successful.”
Wilson noted that while the company’s new CEO, Jill Soltau, who was installed late last year hasn’t made a lot of public announcements, she has been putting her stamp on the company, adding some additional brands, and bringing back a focus on some of the store’s “legacy brands,” both private and national, like St. John’s Bay and Liz Claiborne.
The company has also made some increases to their home department, from bedding to housewares.
“Really, our store is very healthy right now,” Wilson said. “When we finished this fiscal year, it was our fifth straight year of sales growth.”
“Our salon has also grown tremendously in the last few years.”
Salon Manager Alyssa Morrison agreed.
“I have to say our salon is doing better than it’s ever done since being open,” Morrison said.
“The salon is growing at a rapid pace and hiring only the top talent in Clarion. We are not slowing down anytime soon and absolutely will continue to give the best to our clients.”
According to Carter English of J.C. Penney Corporate Communications & Public Relations, the decision was made to close 18 stores across the country this year, including the three previously announced stores in early January. However, none of the stores slated for closure are in Pennsylvania.
Locally, a JCPenney store in the Cranberry Mall in Seneca closed in 2016, and a JCPenney store located at the Clearfield Mall closed in 2017.
Currently, four JCPenney stores in the region remain open in the following malls: Clarion Mall, Indiana Mall, DuBois Mall, and Clearview Mall in Butler.
