Man Falls Asleep at the Wheel, Crashes into Tree

BARNETT TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say a driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a tree along State Route 899 Monday in Barnett Township, Forest County.

According to police, around 11:35 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 51-year-old Richard T. Geer, of Brookville, was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling south on State Route 899 just south of Blue Ridge Road in Barnett Township, Forest County.

Police say Geer attempted to negotiate a left-hand curve when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle traveled southeast into the northbound lane and exited the road on the eastern side.

The vehicle first struck a guide rail and then proceeded to hit a tree head-on before coming to a final rest facing southeast.

Geer was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage.

Geer was cited for a lane violation.

Frank’s Auto & Sons assisted at the scene.
