Philip Maier bwPhilip L. Maier, 91, of Oil City, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, Sunday, April 21, 2019.

Born June 3, 1927, in Oil City, he was a son of the late Joseph and Olive Hargenrader Maier.

Philip worked as a water meter technician for the City of Oil City, retiring after 28 years.

Mr. Maier was a member of St. Joseph Church.

He enjoyed studying astronomy, cemetery cataloguing and maintenance, and fixing all manner of broken things.

Phil was always busy doing things for everyone and anyone who might need help.

On April 23, 1960, he was married to the former Alberta Barrett, who survives. They celebrated 59 years together this month.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three sons, Philip Maier, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, Florida, William Kerr of Jupiter, Florida, and Thomas Kerr of Stafford, Virginia; three daughters, Virginia Cook of Palm City, Florida, Patricia Hall of Palm City, Florida, and Joan Hammit of Dempseytown; 18 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Susan Sisko and Carol Condon; three brothers, Bernard, Edward, and Joseph Maier; and two sisters, Mary Maier-Platt and Caroline Maier-Riley.

Friends will be received at the Morrison Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church on Friday at noon with the Rev. Ian McElrath presiding.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
