Samuel R. “Rich” Switzer

6252006_fbsSamuel R. “Rich” Switzer, 75, of Sligo, passed away at his home Wednesday April 24, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Born Nov. 17, 1943, in Parkers Landing, he was the son of Thomas Russel and Elise (Dunkle) Switzer.

Sam attended AC Valley High School.

He was a driller for C & K Coal Company for more than 20 years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going to auctions and taking his antique cars to car shows.

Rich is survived by four daughters: Tammy Hornberger and her husband Tom of Curllsville, Tracy Smith and her husband Gary of Sligo, Tara Switzer and her husband Mark of Knox and Jessica Shrum and her husband Dustin of Sligo; and two sons: Rick Switzer and his wife Kimberly of Sligo and Michael Switzer and his wife Deb of Corsica.

Also surviving are three sisters: Sarah “Betty” Kriebel of Sligo, Doris Fair of Callensburg and Marlys “Dolly” Wolfe of Sligo; and three brothers; Thomas Switzer of Sligo, Colonel “Sonny” Switzer and his wife Nancy of Sligo and Deryl Switzer of Parker.

He is also survived by his significant other Mary Chadwell of Sligo; 11 grandchildren; Bret Switzer and his wife Katie, Trent Switzer and his wife Amanda, Carrie Murdock and her husband Jake, Kami Hornberger, Matt and Miranda Switzer, Brandon Smith, Alyson and Jordan Bell and Karlee and Makenna Shrum, and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Switzer.

Rich’s family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday April 27, at the Varner Funeral Home in Sligo.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Sunday April 28, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Switzer, pastor of Grace Community Church in Curllsville, officiating. Additional visiting will be prior to the service from noon to 2 p.m.

Interment will be in the Cedarview Cemetery.
