Albert A. Rearigh, 92, of Oil City, died Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2019 at the Wesbury Retirement Community in Meadville.

He was born in New Bethlehem, Clarion County on July 18, 1926 to the late William L. and Nancy (Hoover) Rearigh.

Mr. Rearigh served in the U.S. Army during World War II, entering on November 2, 1944, and being honorably discharged on August 20, 1946. He served in the European Theater; and received the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

In 1988, Albert took an interest in and learned to play the Appalachian Dulcimer, and became a member of the Clarion Dulcimer Club where he enjoyed playing at various venues.

Albert was a founding member of the local Military Support Group that met at the Fox Street Church of God to assemble and ship many care packages to soldiers overseas.

He was a member of the Reno United Methodist Church.

Mr. Rearigh was employed as a truck driver and equipment operator for Louis Kraft Co. in Oil City, where he was instrumental in grading land in Oliver Manor, Bouquin Circle, and the West End Marina. In the 1970’s, he became a truck driver for Daniels Transport and drove for 25 years, and was proud to have had an accident-free driving record.

He was married in Cherrytree on August 23, 1947 to Maxine Ruth Zerres, and she preceded him in death in 1998. In 2001, he met a lady named Rose, and they became inseparable companions. They participated in parades with the Military Support Group, enjoyed going to the Polk Market for a meal and an evening of music, and attended events at the Barrow Civic Theater. He learned that Rose used to stamp his delivery slips many years ago, when he delivered gravel for the Kraft Company.

Albert is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Custer and her husband Rodney of Tionesta, and Sondra Deeter and her husband Gerald of Pleasantville; his companion, Rose Cotterman of Oil City; four grandchildren: Joseph Putnam, Jr., Kevin E. Deeter, Brian Myers, and Kristen Myers; and two great-grandchildren: Raquel and Marcus Dunham. Also surviving is his sister, Mary Rybak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry E. Rearigh.

Friends and family will be received Thursday (May 16th) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca Cranberry Township, where the funeral service will follow Thursday (May 16th) at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cindy Weber of the Reno United Methodist Church, officiating. The V.E.T.S. Honor Guard will accord full military honors at the beginning of the funeral service. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens in Cranberry.
