William W. “Bill” Mattern

matternWilliam W. “Bill” Mattern, 66, of Meadow Road in Seneca, died Sunday afternoon, May 12, 2019 at UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie following an illness.

He was born in Oil City on April 3, 1953 to the late Delbert M. and Isabell (Stratton) Mattern.

He was a graduate of Cranberry High School.

Bill was a former member of the Cranberry Area Lions Club. He also served as a Boy Scout leader, and umpired softball games. He was an active member of the Seneca Volunteer Fire Department’s Fire Police.

He was a baptized member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lamartine.

Bill enjoyed bowling on many different bowling leagues throughout the years. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing Santa, and being around children.

He was a self-employed handyman and contractor; and owned Bill’s Remodeling & Snowplowing for many years, until his retirement in 2018.

He is survived by a sister, Carol Perry of Colorado; and a niece, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Delbert and Isabell Mattern, he was preceded in death by a sister, Amy Lou Mattern, and a brother, John Mattern.

A visitation will be held Wednesday (May 15th) from 7 — 8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca. Additional visitation will be held Thursday (May 16th) from 10 — 11 a.m. in the Salem Lutheran Church, 2057 Rte. 208 in Lamartine (Clarion County). The funeral service will follow in the church Thursday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Karen Parsh, church pastor, officiating.
