SPONSORED: Erich Spessard for Common Pleas Judge
“Oh jeez, another political ad,” you’re probably thinking. I get it – this stuff isn’t fun but it’s important. Clarion County will choose who will guide our judicial system for the next ten to twenty years.
We cannot take the position of Common Pleas Judge for granted. This office demands the best. The workload is tremendous, especially in a one-judge county like Clarion. It takes someone with energy, impeccable integrity, strong leadership, and a touch of compassion.
My name is Erich Spessard. I was born in Trier, Germany, while my father was serving in the United States Air Force there. After he retired, we settled down in Carlisle, Pa. When it came time to choose a college, Clarion University was the place for me. It had good programs, good professors, and it wasn’t going to break the bank. While at Clarion University, I fell in love with Clarion County.
Once I had my law degree from William & Mary, I came right back to Clarion. I worked as an intern at the Clarion County Public Defender’s Office before accepting full-time work in Pittsburgh. Just six months later the opportunity to come back to Clarion presented itself, and I simply could not pass it up. I have been serving as Clarion’s Chief Public Defender ever since.
As Chief Public Defender, I’ve personally handled over 1,000 cases. Not “my office has handled…” Me. I take those cases all the way through. I investigate. I interview. I argue motions. I work for my clients the entire time. I do this while managing a county office and budget that answers to the taxpayers each year. When I’m not in my office, you can find me working with the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Court Team or the Behavioral Health Court Team. Or I’m volunteering at the United Way and the Rotary Club. My history of public service has consistently focused on improving the community my wife Miranda and I fell in love with.
So this letter – yes, this paid political ad – asks you to consider me for Common Pleas Judge. I’m not here to tell you I am destined for this position or entitled to it. I’m here to say I’m ready to work, and I will work to earn both your trust and your vote by demonstrating my commitment to integrity, leadership and compassion every day.
I have been out knocking on doors this spring, literally walking the walk, talking to as many people as I can. I’ve visited 1,500 homes so far, but Clarion is a big county. If we haven’t met yet, I welcome the opportunity to talk with you about my campaign. You can reach me at email@example.com. I think you will see the commitment that I have for this community and my passion to serve our judicial system. I would be honored if you will consider me, Erich Spessard, for Common Pleas Judge as you exercise your right to vote on May 21st.
