CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Grocery pickup at Clarion Walmart is nearing reality as the store is busy installing curbside and online equipment to be able to offer the service.
Customers will be able to order groceries online through the “Walmart Grocery” app and then come to the store where they will park in a pickup area, and a Walmart employee will load their bags.
According to Clarion Walmart co-manager, Tony Kanouff, Walmart is aiming to modernize the store and make shopping more convenient for its customers. Kanouff believes a large number of area shoppers will take advantage of the service pointing to the store’s close proximity to the two largest employers in Clarion County — Clarion University and the Clarion Hospital.
All of this comes at a time when Walmart is attempting to appeal to a younger demographic whose main form of shopping comes in an online format.
When asked how the service would impact current employees, Kanouff said some workers would be redirected to the grocery pickup department, but that the store was mainly focused on hiring new employees.
While there are no finalized details as of yet, Kanouff said eight to ten parking spots in the side lot adjacent to the store’s lawn and garden department will be designated as pickup locations.
The store announced on its Facebook page that grocery pickup will launch on June 6.
