Keystone Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader from Cranberry

Brooks LaVan Keystone DatkoKNOX, Pa. (D9Sports) — Keystone swept a doubleheader from visiting Cranberry winning 8-0 and 7-4.

Tye Elder tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener walking two and striking out four.

Conner Exley, Logan Sell and Brooks LaVan combined for nine hits, five runs scored and five RBIs to pace Keystone’s offense in the victory.

Exley was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs, Sell was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs and LaVan was 3-for-4 with a run scored.

Trevor Gladdin and Brandon Hutchinson had the hits for Cranberry.

Adam Smerkar took the loss going 2 ⅓ innings giving up five runs, all earned, on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.

In the nightcap, Elder had a pair of doubles while going 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Exley added another double and was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored, and Jayden Blazosky was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Keystone.

Brandon Forrest was 2-for-4 with three runs scored to pace Cranberry with Gladdin going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI and Tyler Comiske going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Troy Johnson got the win in relief of Andrew Lauer. Johnson pitched three innings giving up two runs, both earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out one. Lauer pitched four innings giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks while striking out five.

Gladdin suffered the loss going six innings giving up six runs, five earned, on nine hits while striking out six.

A-C VALLEY 10, UNION 3

RIMERSBURG, Pa. — Tony Thompson went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI to help visiting A-C Valley to a 10-3 win over Union.

Broc Weigle added a pair of hits and a run scored for the Falcons.

Luke Salvo was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Union with Karter Vogle going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Clayton Marsh adding a double.

FRANKLIN 8, CLARION 3

FRANKLIN, Pa. — Ian Haynes went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBIs to help Franklin to an 8-3 win over visiting Clarion, the 17th consecutive wins for the 18-1 Knights.

Austin Rhoads was also 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and two RBIs for the victory, while Kaden Keely went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a run scored and an RBI and Connor Rakow and Dale Kinch each scored twice.

Nate Datko was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for Clarion with Skylar Rhoades going 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Keely got the win in relief of Tyus Wood going two scoreless innings allowing two hits and a walk while striking out one. Wood pitched three innings giving up an unearned run on a hit and a walk while striking out three. Rhoads and Rakow also pitched for the Knights.

Cal German took the loss in relief going 2 ⅓ innings allowing four runs, four earned, on three hits and two walks while striking out one. Nate Datko started and pitched two innings giving up one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out one. Lake Staub pitched 1 ⅔ innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one.
