Karen-Irwin-1557583206Karen Ruth Horn Irwin, 71, of Statesville, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House surrounded by family.

Mrs. Irwin was born in Oil City, PA on August 24, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Warren Horn and Ruth Heckathorne Horn. She was a graduate of Oil City High School and a member of Yadkin Baptist Church.

Mrs. Irwin was married to Don Irwin who preceded her in death in 2004.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Denny Horn and his wife Ruby, a grandson, Larry Nicholson, Jr., two brothers-in-law, Jim Campbell and Clyde Weingard and one other sister-in-law, Debbie Horn along with several nieces and nephews.

Left to cherish the memory of Mrs. Irwin are three daughters, Gina Beckham (fiancé’ Bryan Starrette) of Statesville, Melissa I. Wright (Russell Duncan) of Marion, NC and Jessie Nicholson (Larry) of Statesville. She is also survived by five step-children, Jeff Irwin (Maria) of Mt. Airy, Lee Irwin of Statesville, Chris Irwin Starkey, Rick Irwin (Renee’), and Tim Irwin (Char), all of PA; nine siblings, Joyce H. Campbell of St. Mary’s PA, Diane H. Weingard, Dale Horn (June), Scott Horn, Craig Horn (Sharon) and Jeff Horn (Bobbie), all of Oil City, PA and Elwood Horn (Marion), Larry Horn (Michelle), and Kenny Horn (Pam), all of Franklin, PA.

She is further survived by five grandchildren, Alexandria and Emmie Wright, and Hunter, Destinie, and Xander Nicholson along with 14 step-grandchildren, Dr. Matthew Irwin, Stephanie Irwin Shaffer, Ryan Irwin, Joshua, Michael and Eric Waters, Amanda, Mike, Beth, Ashley, Tim, T.J., Tiffany, and Amber Irwin. Ten great-grandchildren along with a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of life service honoring the life of Karen Irwin will be conducted at 5:00 PM Sunday, May 19, 2019 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Bunton officiating. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 until 4:30 PM at the funeral home. A service to celebrate her life along with the committal of her ashes on her grandparents’ farm in PA will be scheduled at a later date.
