Clarion Man Busted for Meth, Marijuana Possession

CLARION BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — A Clarion man is facing charges for possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and related offenses.

According to court documents, the Clarion Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 27-year-old John Michael Shingledecker, of Clarion, on Friday, May 31.

The charges are the result of a routine patrol in Clarion Borough on the morning of May 3.

Around 9:53 a.m. on May 3, 2019, Officer Wright, of the Clarion Borough Police Department, was on routine patrol in the borough, traveling west on Liberty Street when he observed a man asleep in a silver Volkswagen sedan at the Clarion Pool located at 219 Liberty Street, according to a criminal complaint.

Officer Wright stopped his patrol vehicle, exited to perform a welfare check, and approached the vehicle. He observed a glass smoking pipe with a bulbed head (commonly used for smoking methamphetamine) on the driver’s side floorboard between the driver’s feet, the complaint states.

Officer Wright also observed a clear plastic case open on the passenger seat and a digital scale inside the box. He walked around the passenger side of the vehicle and observed a clear glass vial containing suspected methamphetamine inside of the plastic case, according to the complaint.

Officer Wright made contact with the driver identified as John M. Shingledecker. Officer Kemmer was contacted via radio and advised to respond to the pool on Liberty Street. Shingledecker was taken into custody and placed into the rear of Kemmer’s patrol vehicle.

Officers Wright and Kemmer conducted a probable cause search of Shingledecker’s vehicle and the following items were located:

– 1 vial of crystal methamphetamine
– 1 blue/clear Tupperware
– 1 digital pocket scale
– 1 silver wallet containing several small ziplock bags
– 1 silver can that contained small ziplock bag of “STAR DAWG” marijuana
– 4 glass smoking pipes
– 2 plastic containers with white residue
– 1 clear bag containing marijuana
– 1 orange pill marked “B705” and one half yellow pill
– 3 small bags
– 1 blue plastic tube with an unidentified liquid

The above items were seized, taken to the police station, and then logged and secured into evidence, the complaint indicates.

At the Clarion Borough Police station, Shingledecker was read his Miranda rights, and he agreed to speak with Officer Wright.

According to the complaint, Shingledecker advised that the substance in the clear vial was methamphetamine and that he was scheduled to make a delivery to a known person on that same day.

Shingledecker was arraigned at 8:30 p.m. on May 30 in front of Magisterial District Judge Amy Long Turk on the following charges:

– Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor (three counts)
– Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

Unable to post $5,000.00 monetary bail, Shingledecker was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on June 11 with Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn presiding.
