The Relay Recess program engages students in the Relay For Life movement by providing information about cancer education, physical fitness activities, fundraising, and community service. Each day of the week, students focused on a different area of cancer prevention including sun safety, tobacco education, physical fitness, and nutrition.
Students ended the week focusing on the physical fitness component by participating in their annual Field Day. One of this year’s highlights was getting the opportunity to dunk their principal, Mr. Walter, and several of their teachers including, Mr. Martz, Mr. Uckert, and Mr. Cullo in a dunk tank!
In addition to learning about cancer prevention, students created banners in their classrooms to provide support and encouragement that will be sent to the Relay For Life of Venango County. They also decorated luminaria bags in memory or honor of those that have battled cancer.
At the conclusion of the events, Clarion Elementary presented the American Cancer Society with a check for $1,456.
“Clarion Elementary would like to thank everyone who donated towards Relay Recess and Field Day including, parents, teachers, staff members, Seth Babington and Clarion Rehabilitation Services, Clarion Elementary PTO, McDonald’s of Clarion, and Brian Acey,” said organizer Jessica Carbaugh in a release issued by the school.
