Kemmer’s Greenhouse, a local family-owned business established in 1984, has had its ups and downs – but nothing quite like the recent fire that injured one of the family members and destroyed three buildings, including a home, on the back part of the property.
According to the second-generation owner, Brian Kemmer, his mother, Donna Kemmer, who was injured in the explosion and subsequent fire, is currently at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh.
“She’s in Pittsburgh recovering with second-degree burns to 35 percent of her body and a broken bone in her face,” Kemmer told exploreClarion.com.
“I can’t say that she’s going to have a full recovery, though. It’s still too soon to tell.”
Kemmer also noted that the explosion is still under investigation and the two pipelines that run across part of the property are currently shut down completely.
“They won’t be fired back up anytime soon,” he noted.
While the fire destroyed the house, a garage, and a building where a number of vehicles were stored, it only did some damage to the larger garage and the “old” greenhouse on the back part of the property.
The main Kemmer’s Greenhouse business located at 2464 Pine Run Road remains open.
“Everything damaged is on the opposite end of the property from the store,” explained Kemmer.
Although the south end of Pine Run Road, where the Greenhouse is located, remains closed, customers can access the store from the north end of Pine Run Road.
