ELDRED TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A fire that occurred earlier this week in Eldred Township has been ruled accidental.

The Sigel Fire Department requested a State Police Fire marshal to respond to 2096 O’Donnell Road in Eldred Township after a small explosion and fire occurred between 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, and 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10.

According to police, the damage was contained to a breezeway that connects a one-stall garage to the main house.

Police say it was determined that the fire was accidental in nature and had started in a plastic garbage can and spread to some plastic shelving where an aerosol can ruptured, which caused the sliding glass doors to be dislodged. The fire then self-extinguished and did not spread further to the garage or house.

The victim, an 85-year-old State College woman, was not injured.

Damage is estimated at approximately $2,000.00.
