The club donated three raised garden beds to the YMCA Child Care program so youth can learn about plants and gardening through a hands-on approach.

The Wildflower Garden Club wrote a grant requesting $1,000.00 from the National Garden Club’s Plant America Community Grant.  They were among seven to receive the grant in Pennsylvania and one of 82 in the US.

The Garden Club selected the YMCA to receive the raised beds because they wanted to involve children in gardening.  The Wildflower Garden Club partnered with the Clarion County Career Center to build the beds.

Two students, Michael Peterson and Jackson Fox, built the beds under the guidance of instructor Dan Emings. Jackson Fox and Michael Peterson were able to help deliver the raised beds to the YMCA.

The Garden Club will assist the children in their new gardening venture.  Garden Club Members plan to help the children plant and grow strawberries, flowers, herbs, and vegetables in their new gardens.

The Wildflower Garden Club also presented the children with four children’s books about gardening so they can continue to learn about plants and seeds in the classroom.

The Wildflower Garden Club was founded in 1996 with a small group of women from Leeper, PA.  The Garden Club became federated in 1998.  The club meets at 6:00 p.m. the second Tuesday of every month from February through November at the Tylersburg United Methodist Church.  Each club meeting includes a horticulture lesson and an educational program from a guest speaker.
