Police - nightEMLENTON, Pa. (EYT) – A 37-year-old man is facing felony assault and related charges following a violent altercation in which he allegedly choked and punched a man in Emlenton.

According to court documents, the Franklin-based State Police filed the following criminal charges against 37-year-old Nathaniel Todd Loughner, of Forestville, Pa., on Wednesday, June 12:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Criminal Mischief-Damage Property, Misdemeanor 3
– Disorderly Conduct Engage In Fighting, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges stem from a violent incident that occurred in Scrubgrass Township on Saturday, June 8.

According to a criminal complaint filed by Trooper Morrison of PSP Franklin, around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, a known male victim was at the Emlenton Truck Plaza in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County, with his four minor children to transfer custody to their mother and her husband, Nathaniel Loughner.

According to the complaint, the victim exited the plaza with the children, and as he walked to his vehicle, he made a flexing motion toward Loughner – in which Loughner took offense. Loughner then allegedly walked over to the victim, who was at his own vehicle and began to push the victim repeatedly as he was attempting to get into the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

According to the complaint, Loughner pressed the door into the victim’s neck, choking him, and then punched him in the left eye, breaking his glasses and fracturing his left orbital.

The complaint notes that during the assault, one of the minor children was particularly alarmed and afraid for his father’s health and safety and attempted to pull Loughner off of the victim.

Loughner then returned to his vehicle and left with his wife and the other three children, while the concerned child refused to go and stayed with the victim.

According to the complaint, two witnesses were interviewed at the scene, and both stated they saw Loughner aggressively assaulting the victim while the victim did nothing aggressive and only attempted to get away from Loughner.

Based on the investigation, Loughner was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Patrick E. Lowrey at 9:03 a.m. on Thursday, June 13.

He remains free on $5,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in Venango County Central Court with Judge Lowrey presiding.

A first-class summons was issued to Loughner on June 13.
