Violet I. Smith

5d0a73972b95aViolet I. Smith, age 92, of Emlenton, passed away Tuesday evening, June 18, 2019, at the home of her son.

Born August 14, 1926, in Sheffield, Alabama, she was a daughter of the late James A. and Ellen A. Despigno Bunch.

She married Rayburn C. Smith on September 8, 1942. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1986.

Violet loved everyone she came in contact with, especially little children. She had a deep faith and belief in her Lord, Jesus Christ, and attended her prayer groups regularly.

A homemaker, she worked diligently raising her nine children, teaching them right from wrong, but always with a kind heart. She loved to play the piano and color adult coloring books. She will be sadly missed.

Survivors include eight children: Dennis L. Smith of Emlenton; Daniel W. Smith and wife, Linda, of Dunnellon, Florida; Kathy L. Shanafelt of Emlenton; Jesse C. Smith and his wife, Debbie, of Knox; Joel C. Smith and his wife, Joan, also of Knox; Priscilla J. Ofca of Steubenville, Ohio; Rose A. Smith of Pittsburgh and George A. Smith and his wife, Tanis, of Beckley, West Virginia; one sister, Gail L. McConnell of Stevenson, Alabama and a brother, James Douglas Bunch and his wife, Ruby, of Mechanicsville.

Violet is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Arlene Smith of Emlenton; a brother-in-law, Aven Miller of Louisville, Mississippi; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Rayburn D. Smith; grandson, Jay Shanafelt; son-in-law, Arthur Shanafelt; daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; two sisters, Delores Beach and Shirley Miller; three brothers: George Bunch, Larry Bunch, and Johnny Bunch, along with numerous in-laws.

There will be no calling hours.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Loop Cemetery in Licking Township, Clarion County, with Pastor Korona Say officiating.
