Spaghetti Dinner Benefit to be Held on Sunday for Local Woman Injured in Explosion

MAYPORT, Pa. (EYT) — A spaghetti dinner fundraiser is being held on Sunday for a local woman who was injured in an explosion earlier this year.

The benefit will be held on Sunday, July 21, at the Shannondale Social Hall in Mayport for Donna Kemmer who was injured from a fire/explosion that destroyed her home earlier this year.

Sixty-eight-year-old Donna Kemmer was in bed at her residence on Pine Run Road in Redbank township around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, when she heard a loud explosion and found herself buried under a wall.

According to Ridgway-based State Police Fire Marshal Russell Stewart, an investigation determined that the fire/explosion that occurred at Kemmer’s residence originated in the basement from migrating natural gas and has been classified as accidental.

Following the initial explosion, Kemmer was able to free herself and drive to a neighbor’s residence for assistance.

She was transported to a Pittsburgh area hospital by Clarion Hospital EMS.

According to Donna’s son, Brian Kemmer, owner of Kemmer’s Greenhouse, she suffered second-degree burns to 35% of her body, as well as a broken bone in her face.

She is currently living with family as she continues to recover.

“She’s doing pretty well and getting around more. She’s really progressed a long way,” Kemmer told exploreClarion.com.

The benefit dinner will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or until it is sold out.

The cost is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12. Children under two eat for free.

Take-outs will be available.

Shannondale Social Hall is located at 2866 Pine Run Road, Mayport,
