Boyer, Ron Obit PhotoRonald Eugene Boyer, beloved husband, father, grandfather and faithful friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, November 19, 2018.

Ron was the youngest of four siblings born to William Lawrence and Cora Belle Boyer on September 25th, 1935 in Emlenton, PA.

He grew up on the family farm, and graduated from Emlenton High School in 1952. He was selected for All-State Band at age 15, and represented his high school as a tuba player. Ron received his Bachelor’s in mathematics from Clarion College (University) and went on to receive his Master’s in mathematics from Bowling Green University. Ron married Nancy (Ketner) in June of 1960 and the couple settled in Sigel to raise their family. Ron taught math in high school in Summerville, and then transferred to Brookville High School, where he served as the head of the Math Department for years until his retirement. Students and adults alike enjoyed Ron’s dry sense of humor. He led a Webelos scout program and spent many hours crafting cars for the Pinewood Derby each year; often helping troop members who needed assistance.

A craftsman at heart, Ronald could always be found in his wood shop, where he enjoyed making beautifully finished dressers, beds, stands, toys, frames and other gifts for family and friends. His early love for music followed him throughout his life, and he enjoyed listening to music while he worked in his shop. Ron was a man who avoided the spotlight, but was always there for those that needed help.

Ronald is survived by his wife Nancy of 58 years; their three children: James A. Boyer, Rhonda (Mike) Mendel and Michael E. Boyer; and three grandchildren: Sarah (Brian) Hart, Gregg Mendel and Samuel Mendel. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Alice (Ed) Oyler and Margaret (Warren “T”) Eckelberger and a brother, Robert (Genevieve) Boyer.

A Memorial Service to honor Ron will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 2 pm at the St. Petersburg United Methodist Church with Pastor John D. Hollis officiating. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney — d’Argy Funeral Home, Main St., Brookville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sigel Volunteer Fire Department or “Cure PSP,” found at https://www.psp.org.
