CHAMPS and Clarion Area Continue Contract for Athletic Trainers

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — The Clarion Area School Board this week unanimously approved the 2019-2020 contract with CHAMPS (Clarion Hospital Athletic Medicine Program) for athletic trainer services for the district’s athletes.

Clarion Area School District will pay Clarion Rehab $29,911.45 for athletic training services. Included in the total is $26,000.00 per year for salary; $2,900.00 per year for benefits; $450.00 per year for continuing education; $254.00 per year for National Athletic Training Association (NATA) dues; and $213.33 for ATS documentation software which will be managed and paid by Clarion Rehab.

The athletic trainer assigned to the school district must obtain act 34 and 151 clearances and FBI clearances upon beginning his/her assignment as an athletic trainer.

Clarion Rehab shall provide an athletic trainer, contingent upon approval of the school district, to provide athletic training services to the school district under the supervision and direction of the athletic director.

Clarion Rehab will coordinate with the athletic director or other person designated by the school district to develop and implement a plan which will utilize the athletic trainer in a manner which will fulfill the clinical requirements of CHAMP and the athletic training needs of the school district.

Clarion Rehab will screen and assign an athletic trainer to the school district on a full-time basis to meet the needs of the school district. The athletic trainer will provide coverage in the clinic on an as-needed basis for scheduled vacation days or unexpected illnesses only. Coverage decisions will be made by the director based on the needs of the clinic in schools districts athletic schedule on those days. The athletic trainer provides athletic training services to the school district in compliance with the Clarion Rehab procedures and in a manner which is consistent with the rules, regulations, policies, procedures of the school district.

The athletic trainer will provide annual education to coaching staffs and athletes on the topics of injury prevention, proper hydration, concussions, and any other topics of interest. Additional Clarion Rehab staff will be available during regular business hours.

The contract with Clarion Rehabilitation Services continues a long-standing relationship between the school district and Clarion Rehab.
